Following an artist residency at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto, this project involved developing a collaboration with Chaines. She created a soundtrack for a performance, in which I projected an eight minute 16mm film of photograms of fabric, before re-winding it at an edit bench and unspooling it in the light of a film projector.
This project allowed me to focus on the visual aspects of performing live with 16mm film in a number of sites. Chaines worked with my voice and picked up on the narrative of my practice-based research investigating the idea of photochemical film as fabric, my love for analogue film and my family history, which includes a long line of needlewomen and workers in the textile industry in north west England. The soundtrack was released digitally in 2015 by Slip Imprint.
