Film as Fabric: An Experiment at Rogue Cinema at Rogue Artist Studios, Crusader Mill
March 2017

Film as Fabric: An Experiment was made with the idea of re-assembling elements of Annabel Nicolson's performance Reel Time (1973), with specific focus on the sound, the unrehearsed nature of the performance, and the audience  handling the film loop as it moved through the room. This performance was with a long loop of clear film leader. Two volunteers read from letters sent to me from my mother describing the tradition of domestic and industrial textile practice in my family, for example, how her mother and grandmother taught her to sew and knit as a child. The sounds of the sewing machine and film projector mechanisms were amplified with contact microphones. The performance was part of a series of screenings at Rogue Cinema. The photographs were taken by Sam Meech.
